Video Poker is a popular game that usually will be played in casinos around the world, or alternatively at your house on your home computer, through an Internet connection. The game rules are absolutely straightforward and involve the player trying to get the best mixture of cards as you can in order to acquire cash. On this account it’s much the same as a regular game of poker, without the involvement with any other players. Of course, tactics used in a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the player puts credits (either tokens, tickets or money) into the video poker machine and pushes the deal button. A hand of 5 cards will then be "given out" on the screen.

The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and enthusiasts will need to now pick which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.

After the player has decided on which cards he or she wishes to keep, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards will be needed they will be handed out. The round is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.

Typically, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the pay out schedule can range from game to game, so that skillful players are agile enough to choose the most profitable machine each time.

Once the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to remain on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that they may have won. Further, a few versions of the game give the player an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which case a further round is played. There are also differences among specific games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing characteristics to increase playability.
