Electronic Poker is a popular game that usually will be played in casinos around the globe, or in your house on your home computer, using an Internet connection. The regulations are very simple and involve the player attempting to achieve the highest combination of cards achievable in order to come away with money. In this respect it is much the same as a normal game of poker, apart from the interaction with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker begins when the player puts credits (whether it’s tokens, tickets or cash) into the machine and pushes the deal button. A five card hand will then be "given out" on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and enthusiasts should now choose which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it is all or none.

After the gambler has selected which cards he or she would like to retain, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards will be needed they will be given out. The hand is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payout schedule.

Generally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money increasing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the pay out schedule can range from game to game, so that skillful bettors are agile enough to select the most money-making machine every time.

After the initial round has completed, the player can either choose to remain on and try to to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that have been won. Additionally, some styles of the game allow the gambler a chance to increase their wins, in which situation a further game is played. There are also variations among individual games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other varying aspects to enhance playability.
