Video Poker is a favored game that is able to be bet on in casinos across the world, or alternatively at home on your home computer, through an Internet connection. The rules are absolutely straightforward and consist of the player trying to achieve the best assemblage of cards possible in order to win money. In this respect it is very similar as a normal game of poker, minus the line of contact with other players. Of course, methods used in a real-life game of poker, like bluffing, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler inserts credits (whether it’s tokens, credit slips or money) into the video poker machine and pushes the draw button. A hand of 5 cards will be "handed out" on the screen.

The Video Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and enthusiasts will need to now pick which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the gambler would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, from all to none.

After the bettor has selected which cards he wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards will be needed they will be dealt. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the pay out schedule.

Generally, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the pay out schedule can change from machine to machine, so that skillful players are agile enough to select the most profitable ones each and every time.

After the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to continue on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that might been won. Further, several styles of the game allow the player an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which case a further game is played. There are also differences among individual games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other differing characteristics to enhance playability.
